The World of Nevermore- a blog

Okay, so I broke down and read the Twilight series of books. 4 books in as many days. Thought it was interesting for the most part. 3.5 out of 5 in my personal rating system. Click the link above for the review I gave it. No plot spoilers.

good times

Eh, there are a lot of good things rolling in at work, one for which I have a midday meeting tomorrow.

This is a long story, I'll try to keep it as short as possible. I've been working my ass off at Verizon Wireless, looking to find ways to make myself more indispensible. In hard economic times, this is never a guarantee, but it helps to make yourself useful to a corporation to the point that you'll not be let go easy. Not that we're going through hard times; we're still hiring people left and right at the bottom end.

---

We are heading into another shift change. Workers are going to select new schedules and with that, supervisors will also bid for new schedules. Still being relatively middle of the pack in seniority, I was dreading what kind of shittastic schedule might be mine, including split days off or weekend nights or both.

An opportunity opened up for interested supervisors in tech with our support group. 4 positions. This is traditionally a difficult group to manage because they support new product. Metrics for those individuals have been typically shitty. But, being interested in new product support and knowing it would look good on my resume, I applied.

I have one of those positions secured, and it looks like I'll be running 7a-4p M-F. Am excited, there's the potential for someone of higher seniority to be pushed into the job rather than a newbie which would give me an afternoon schedule. Still not as shitty as the other alternatives...

I get into work Friday, find out I've been selected as one of the 4 and one of our tenured supervisors in charge of new product support for our center drags me outside first thing in the morning. We start to talk about the group and I have apparently hit the career pathing gold mine.

It turns out that this specialty group is also going to be utilizing the supervisors for product development, rollout, and support for a lot of new products that are being released.

While I can't disclose details for obvious reasons, I am really excited about this opportunity for a very high profile, high visibility position working with product development. Specifically, I am going to a meeting tomorrow at mid day (on my day off) to talk about special projects to roll on as well as leading a team.

After the brief discussion yesterday, I have decided to volunteer for new product training and curriculum development for support as well as being responsible for identifying training opportunities for individuals supporting the newer tech.

OMG, we are rolling into our projects starting tomorrow, so this is going to be freaking red-hot. It was a hidden opportunity that you had to have the foresight to volunteer for. Most people are still waiting to see what our shift bid looks like, but I am not having to bid any more and instead am joining a specialized product support team.

I suppose it was done this way to secure individuals who are career oriented and are looking for ways to contribute directly towards the business.

I'm terribly excited about this fortunate turn of events and at the same time, terrified at stretching my talents into a whole new frontier. It has potential for massive success or epic fail. I will need to invest even more time in ensuring that it swings towards success.

It might be me, but...

I feel way stressed out. This weekend has flown by faster than lightning and I still feel really tired/ exhausted. I need to go get some food and then just chill I think and do nothing more.

The weather continues its streak of mild and sunny, so spring fever is setting in already.
